Opens in 2028

The operator reports building work under way.

Regent Kyoto is under construction in Okazaki, which IHG describes as one of the city's most affluent areas, and is set to open in 2028. IHG and GI Capital Management held a ground-breaking ceremony on 29 May 2025. The date has moved: the August 2021 signing release said the hotel would open in 2024 with 86 rooms, while the 2025 release gives 83 rooms and a February 2026 release repeats 2028.

The site is set around a central garden that Kumakichi Kato landscaped more than a century ago. It is home to Tsuruya, a ryotei restaurant with more than 100 years of history that IHG says has held a number of Michelin Stars, in sukiya-style wooden buildings that include work by Isoya Yoshida. The Kyoto Imperial Palace, Heian Shrine and Nanzen-ji Temple are a short walk away.

The guest rooms are planned around a modern take on the engawa, the zone by the window where guests connect with the surrounding gardens. The February 2026 release also lists Kyoto among the hotels due to get Regent Spa & Wellness, a new concept designed by IHG's wellness team, Raison d'Etre.

The operator's wording, “Set to open in 2028”, was read on its own page and last checked 31 October 2026.
